Colorful Simple Stoneware

I am a friend to mud. I love all dirt, except the kind that ends up on my kitchen floor. Whether I am in the garden, hiking paths along the Mississippi River, or out in the studio I am constantly finding a way to connect myself with the earth.

I am a self taught potter, well for the most part. Like many people I took a pottery class in high school and fell in love with the feeling and rhythm of potting. I did nothing to pursue the art until inspired by my father to do something I could truly love for a living. My pottery reflects my understanding of the ceramic process, it is simple and honest. I find contentment in making forms of function and look forward to the evolution that will occur as my knowledge of the art expands. Most of my pots are comprised of white stoneware clay. Pieces are hand formed or thrown on a pottery wheel then refined and altered during the drying process. Once dry pots are heavily loaded into my electric kiln for bisque firing, glazed and then fired again to near vitrification. The completion of a single pot takes several weeks and requires a great deal of patience. The result is a durable and unique work of art to be used every day in the home.
