Biography

Elegant Cut Stone Jewelry

Hassan Bounkit, a native of Morocco, began his career studying fashion design in Florence, Italy. After finishing his studies, he worked for couture houses Ferragamo and Marella Ferrera. In 1989, he moved to New York and worked for Nicole Miller and Arnold Scaasi, amongst others.

Always drawn to jewelry design, Bounkit launched his eponymy’s collection in 2006. Both elegant and exotic, with vibrant color combinations and unusual settings, Hassan attributes his style to his Mediterranean background, ancient Moroccan design and a deep love of nature. He deftly mixes sunset hues with woodsy earth tones, turquoise with jeweled rondells, and crystal beads with organically cut colored stones. Each piece is handcrafted and no two pieces are ever precisely the same due to the handwork of the artisans that work for him. In fact, much of the collection is custom-made for his retailers and clients alike. The accessible luxury of the line is captured by the fact that many of his pieces are uniquely interchangeable: a drop from one earring compliments another. Each season’s pieces can be combined with others to double, if not triple or quadruple a woman’s wardrobe.

Many of his bracelets, necklaces and earrings feature sensationally gigantic stones, which offer his clients modern architectural jewelry with homage to Art Deco boldness.

The collections instantly caught the attention of fashion editors and celebrities including; Oprah, Iman, Liv Tyler, Salma Hayek, Nina Garcia, Natasha Henstridge, and Lily Collins. Bounkit’s pieces have graced the cover of numerous publications and been featured in Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Elle, Allure, Gotham, Essence, Glamour, Town & Country, InStyle, Conde Nast Traveler, Departures, Domino, O Magazine in addition to NBC’S “The Today Show”, “The Oprah Winfrey Show”, “Lipstick Jungle”, “Gossip Girl” and “Astronaut Wives Club”.

He designs three complete collections each year in his New York City atelier where the jewelry is created by hand to his specifications. His collection can be purchased on his site, bounkit.com as well as select retailers across the country.
