Buying handmade is about more than expressing your uniqueness by veering off the mass-produced/mass-marketed path. And it's about more than getting more bang for your buck. It's even about more than providing tangible support for artists and artisans. All or any of those reasons alone would make it worthwhile, but buying handmade is also about reducing our dependence on out-of-control production-distribution systems that exploit people and destroy natural resources. Buying handmade is as green as recycling and reusing shopping bags and, if done by enough people, can have a positive impact on the planet. We welcome media assistance in getting the word out.
