Website Every year on my birthday, my Mom loves to recount the story of her first new sewing machine. She was in labor and having contractions but didn't want to leave her one day old machine.

As the only girl growing up, I got my own bedroom - but, had to share it with the sewing machine. I spent lots of time playing with the threads, turning the needle up and down, sorting buttons and nurturing my love for sewing.

In college, I made pants, tops and pillows with my Grandma's 1940's Singer. It only went forward.

My husband bought me my first new machine when we were dating - sweet! I've finally graduated to my much loved, used often, Bernina!
